Description

Class Experience

Purpose:

To encourage learners to think and expand their knowledge on the development and significance of African History.
To develop an appreciation for African historical contributions and cultural values to the world.
To assist learners in their understanding of the development of a multi-cultural African society.
Learners are expected to participate actively in the formulation of knowledge about Africa Civilizations.
My name is Ms. Remi. I am a Yoruba-speaking teacher originally from the former "Great Oyo Empire" in the South Western part of what is now Nigeria in West Africa.  I have an MA in African Studies. I am a Social Studies Substitute Teacher in the NYC Public School system teaching students from 5th grade to Jnr. High School. I am also an adjunct instructor in African History / Civilizations, World History, and Cultural Diversity courses at the City University of New York [CUNY].  I have experience teaching children of all ages. I was a part-time group family daycare and an afterschool teacher assistant for over 20 years.
Individual Homework to recap what was learned in the class so that learners can continue the discussion in the next class. Instructor provides all activity and learning materials to learners. For example, home work can be review the Hieroglyphics scripts and identify letters to share in a writing sentence in the next class. View the following pyramid images and in the next class, we will visit them to view inside and messages and things in them etc

The teacher will provide all resources necessary for learning in this class to the learners by attaching templates to the class resource page for learners. She will upload any needed learning materials for each of the courses to registered learners. Youtube videos and Google slides will be used through screen share only by the teacher only - no learner account is required.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Informal assessment to share and review provided class content
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Only appropriate content relevant to the course topic will be screen shared via "YouTube" and "Google Slides. There will be discussion on slavery, slaves, imperialism, colonization, and wars but only used to discussed the content based on historical events relevant to the history of the civilization in the lesson plan. Learners will not need a separate account. Only the teacher will need to screen share using these Outschool approved tools when teaching. Leaners will not need a separate account or need to access or download any of the 3rd party info.
