In this introductory graphic design class, students will learn about the art of visual communication including fundamental design concepts, critical evaluation, effective composition, typography, and building complex visual systems.

Class experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Students will learn about graphic design as a field of study, the fundamental elements and principles of design, and the process of design thinking. Much of our process will include drawing which will push students' abstract thinking and critical evaluation. Students will be encouraged to explain their designs and justify their design decisions. We will also have several presentations of their work with public speaking.
I have a Degree in Graphic Design, a Bachelor of Science, and over 20 years of working experience in art and graphic design including being the CEO of Little Daisy Media. I believe that the art of graphic design, or at the very least an appreciation for that art, is something that everyone should practice. Graphic design floods our visual perception everywhere, from the products we buy to the advertisements we are exposed to. I want to share my knowledge of graphic design so that kids understand the basic elements and can build on that to become creative critical thinkers.
Homework Offered
For an engaging experience, students will have homework throughout the week with due dates. This includes weekly design work and classroom discussions/critiques. Homework is always optional, but highly encouraged.
2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
