In this one time course, young chefs will learn how to prepare the most delicious pecan pie! This was my great grandmother's famous recipe. You will have people begging for this recipe, and you'll want to make it over and over! In this class, students will focus on combining ingredients to form the pie filling, place pre made pie crust onto a pie pan, and fill the pan. You'll also hear some baking tips and tricks along the way. During class, we'll start with a short introduction of all learners, review materials and ingredients, then we'll dive into the recipe. I will be actively making the recipe alongside your learners, demonstrating and instructing during class. I will be checking on your learner's progress often to ensure success. I enjoy hearing student's stories and anecdotes, so no all mute class here. I encourage questions about cooking and baking not related to this course as well! We will be preparing this recipe to completion, and placing the pie in the oven to bake, it will finish baking after class is over. This class is great for beginner to intermediate bakers. Your learner will need some basic knowledge of how to measure, knowledge of how to turn on the stove to preheat, and use an electric mixer. Learners should come with a good attitude and a willingness to learn! ** Note from the Chef** This pecan pie freezes very well if you want to make ahead for any special gathering! *Allergen warning* The recipe used in this course may contain nuts, wheat, soy, dairy, eggs, etc **Parental Guidance** During this course we will be measuring and mixing ingredients with an electric hand or an electric stand mixer and placing a pie into the oven. Depending on your learner's skillset and knowledge, they may need more direct supervision.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! My name is Mary and I'm a professionally trained chef with experience in restaurants, country clubs, catering, and institutional cooking. I love to train young chefs in the "hows" and "whys" of cooking so every meal will be delicious! I thoroughly believe in hand on instruction, for cooking there is no other way. There is a ton of math, science, and creativity involved in cooking, so I try to feature those elements as well whenever I can.
My sister is a teacher and I have learned a lot of good tips and tricks for introducing a love of literacy to young children! I enjoy reading aloud to my family and like to offer classes that involve reading and snacking!
I enjoy having inquisitive learners in my classes, you will not find a class that's all PowerPoint or an all mute class from me. I love for students to ask questions, be curious, and make comments. I love to eat, travel, read, laugh, and spend time with my kids and family. I also am passionate about arts and crafts and love to get messy once in a while with glitter!
If you have a child that's passionate about culinary arts please message me about one-on-one cooking lessons and/or sessions. I can also do private birthday parties where we can cook or bake together.
