Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
In this lesson, learners will enjoy listening to "Quick as a Cricket" by Audrey Wood. This book has many similes with adorable illustrations of animals. After the book, we will play an interactive similes game, where the students get to control the screen using their computer mouse or touchpad. Then we will make a Rainbow Similes craft. Also, Audrey Wood, the author of "Quick as a Cricket," suggested going to her website for more free resources for her books!

This class is great for children just learning about similes, or to provide extra practice for learners who already know about similes. Join us in the classroom!

Learning Goals

Students will improve their understanding of similes. They will guess the similes in a fun book. Students will get to practice using similes during an interactive game. Finally, students will be able to write their own similes in their craft.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Teacher Shannon! I have taught 2nd grade for 24 years. I've taught both Gifted and Regular Education. I was a substitute teacher for 2 years working with Early Childhood students as well as older elementary students. My passion is reading! I love Children's Literature and I have even co-taught college level students on "What's New In Children's LIterature?" for the last 10 years. What drives me as a teacher is to have a fun, safe, interactive classroom while embracing lots of quality literature. I want kids to love reading as much as I do and to have fun learning! And maybe make a craft or two along the way!
