US Grade 1 - 2
In this lesson, learners will have fun listening to a story called "Pitch and Throw, Grasp and Know: What Is a Synonym?" by Brian P. Cleary. The story uses rhyme to showcase a variety of synonyms and funny characters. After the story, we will play an interactive synonym game, where the students get to control the screen using their computer mouse or touch pad. Then we will make a yummy Cinnamon Synonym craft. The students will need to think of 4 synonym pairs to write on the plates and cinnamon buns. The students can make a sentence or draw a picture for each synonym pair on the cups, and then share their Cinnamon Synonym treats! This class is great for children who are just learning about synonyms, or to provide extra practice for learners who already know about synonyms. Let's start our synonym learning!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of synonyms. They will also be able to listen to a story and be able to share synonyms from the story. Finally, students will be able to write or draw synonyms on a craft.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Teacher Shannon! I have taught 2nd grade for 24 years. I've taught both Gifted and Regular Education. I was a substitute teacher for 2 years working with Early Childhood students as well as older elementary students. My passion is reading! I love Children's Literature and I have even co-taught college level students on "What's New In Children's LIterature?" for the last 10 years. What drives me as a teacher is to have a fun, safe, interactive classroom while embracing lots of quality literature. I want kids to love reading as much as I do and to have fun learning! And maybe make a craft or two along the way!
