Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
In this lesson, learners will have fun listening to a fun book called "If You Were a Suffix" by Marcie Aboff. This book cleverly teaches a variety of suffixes, such as ing, ed, less, ful, and est. We will also play an interactive suffix game, where the students get to control the screen with their computer mouse or touch pad. Then we will make a Flip Flap Book of Suffixes using the attached printables. The students will cut out words to glue or tape under the correct suffix flaps. They can even add to their flip flap book as they learn more about suffixes!

This class is great for children who are just learning about suffixes, or to provide extra practice for learners who already know about suffixes. Let's start our suffix learning!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of suffixes. They will also be able to listen to a story and be able to share suffixes from the story. Finally, students will be able to sort a variety of suffixes and glue or tape them to a flip flap book.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Teacher Shannon! I have taught 2nd grade for 24 years. I've taught both Gifted and Regular Education. I was a substitute teacher for 2 years working with Early Childhood students as well as older elementary students. My passion is reading! I love Children's Literature and I have even co-taught college level students on "What's New In Children's LIterature?" for the last 10 years. What drives me as a teacher is to have a fun, safe, interactive classroom while embracing lots of quality literature. I want kids to love reading as much as I do and to have fun learning! And maybe make a craft or two along the way!
