Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
By listening to the book Dear Deer by Gene Barretta, learners will meet Aunt Ant who knows all of the animals at the zoo. This book is filled with homophones and fun animals, like the hoarse horse and the wailing whale! After the story, we will play an interactive homophone game, where the students get to control the screen using their computer mouse or touchpad. Then we will make a Homophone Hare craft. The students will use a pair of homophones from the story to create the cute craft.

This class is great for children just learning about homophones, or to provide extra practice for learners who already know about homophones. So learn with us. The EWE is waiting for YOU!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of homophones by listening to a story and sharing homophones from it. Finally, students will use a pair of homophones and write them on a craft.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm Teacher Shannon! I have taught 2nd grade for 24 years. I've taught both Gifted and Regular Education. I was a substitute teacher for 2 years working with Early Childhood students as well as older elementary students. My passion is reading! I love Children's Literature and I have even co-taught college level students on "What's New In Children's LIterature?" for the last 10 years. What drives me as a teacher is to have a fun, safe, interactive classroom while embracing lots of quality literature. I want kids to love reading as much as I do and to have fun learning! And maybe make a craft or two along the way!
