Assessment
We will have occasional written quizzes and I will provide a summary to the parents after each class meeting.Class Experience
US Grade 1 - 3
PLEASE NOTE: this class is in high demand and I now enroll students by request only. If you see any "availability" listed on line, it is likely to be incorrect. Please contact me to discuss up to date availability. This class requires a minimum of two meetings per week. I work very hard to try to fit new students into my schedule. I hope to hear from you soon. In this 45 minute, private class your child and I will learn grammar concepts, practice spelling, and work on correct word pronunciation. Depending on the child's level we might discuss homonyms, homographs, homophones, antonyms, synonyms, and idioms. We will talk about spelling tricks, silent letters, vowel/consonant combinations, rhymes and sight words. I will evaluate each learner's skills in our first meeting, and develop a personalized curriculum. If we decide to work together, I will recommend that you enroll in this class two to three times a week for continuity. With most students, we choose a series of age/level appropriate books and we read in each class. We will use that book as a basis for our grammar and spelling lesson in each class. I will also incorporate grammar and spelling quizzes to track your student's progress. In addition to grammar and spelling we will learn about characters, setting and plot in the stories we read. After each class I will provide a personalized review of our lesson and include strengths and weaknesses. I am a fun and casual teacher, but this is a lengthy class, and the student must be able to focus the entire 45 minutes. Please note, if you are interested in a class that concentrates more on reading comprehensiion, and less on grammar and spelling, please look at my "Let's Read Together - Learn to Read Chapter Books" class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn various grammar concepts, improve their spelling, and learn reading comprehension skills. Hopefully, they will do so while also learning to love to read.

I take my teaching seriously, but I try to present the material in a fun way to encourage learners to participate and enjoy learning.
