English, Grammar Prerequisites for this class include either my Grammar Semester 1 Part 1 of 4 and my Grammar Semester 1 Part 2 of 4; or a solid working knowledge of sentence classifications, patterns, types, nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, interjections, conjunctions, compound, and complex sentences. I've included links to all four sections for your convenience: GS1 P1 - 68 Grammar Semester 1 Part 1 of 4 6th-8th Grade https://bit.ly/GS1P1-68 GS1 P2 - 68 Grammar Semester 1 Part 2 of 4 6th-8th Grade https://bit.ly/GS1P2-68 GS1 P3 - 68 Grammar Semester 1 Part 3 of 4 6th-8th Grade https://bit.ly/GS1P3-68 GS1 P4 - 68 Grammar Semester 1 Part 4 of 4 6th-8th Grade https://bit.ly/GS1P4-68 If you've looked at my course list, you've seen how much I love English. I love the interesting way that words came about and how they go together. I love it when an author cobbles together the right words that help me to see their point of view. I love the ability to communicate and share my own ideas intelligently. That's the thing about learning Grammar, if you only see that you are learning RULES...it becomes a drudge. But when you look at Grammar from the standpoint of connection, our connection with other human beings, in a world where miscommunication and disconnection are the norm, it's easier to see the joy in it. Look, I'm not saying that Grammar is going to bring about world peace, but it will help your student to understand what is being said, and to intelligently express their own thoughts and ideas in an ever more text-driven world. In Part 3 of our 3 part course, we will explore the different kinds of verbs and how they play into the different patterns of sentences that we consistently form. We will meet for 45 minutes each week and I will provide homework, homework keys, and digital tests for a full week’s worth of lessons. Please expect your student to work from 30-45 minutes per day, 4 days per week on the materials outside of class. Each week will follow a similar structure. The materials will be available by 12 am on the morning of class. The materials will be sent as a .pdf Binder for the week that includes reference pages needed for the week, 1 classroom practice that we will need for class that day, and 4 student practice worksheets for their weekly assignments. The homework key and a digital test will be posted to the classroom at 12 am on the morning of the day before class. While each family will find what works best for their household, here is one suggestion for how your student’s Grammar lessons might lay out. Weekly Grammar Lesson Day 1: Your student would print out their Grammar Materials Binder before class and then attend class. Weekly Grammar Lesson Days 2-4: Your student would work through their student practice pages in their Grammar Materials Binder for the week. This should take between 20-45 minutes depending on the student. Weekly Grammar Lesson Day 5 Your student would finish their student practice pages in their Grammar Materials Binder for the week. When all the student practice pages are finished, your student would use the Student Key to check their homework and submit any questions to the classroom. After reviewing the material, the student would put away the material, and click the link to take the weekly test. This test should take approximately 10-15 minutes depending on the student. The test is self-graded so your student will know how they did after submitting their answers. While this is one option for these lessons, how you structure these materials is completely up to you. This is not a traditionally graded class as my student families interact in different ways with the material. A completion certificate is available upon request. So you are able to see the breadth of our 4-week class I will include approximate dates and project plans. Please, make sure to reference the Outschool Classroom Page for final assignments. Week 1 Conjunctions and How They Function Week 2 Prepositions Week 3 Interjections and Continued work on Compound and Complex Sentences Week 4 Review and Final Kahoot!

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Stacey Hamlin, and I love to teach.
I believe that we can learn anything and everything…with a few tools, and the ability to lay down our fears and try.
As a kid, I moved a lot. By the time I was 14 years old, I’d been to or through 42 states. I understand that “displacement” that people feel right now…that “loss of connection.” I believe that I homeschooled my own kids for 16 years to help alleviate that disconnectedness for them.
When my dad finally changed careers, he got “us” into Technology, and convinced me that I could teach. At 17 years old, I taught a group of men my father’s age how to use an Accounting Software that my father had programmed. It was terrifying…right up until I discovered that he had been right.
Nowadays, I teach a lot of things; English, Drama, Math…but behind every lesson is the desire to help people connect and overcome their fears. Life is hard. It’s hard when you are big, and in some ways, it’s even harder when you are small and other people make your decisions for you. It becomes easier when you realize that you are not alone…and that you really can do things that you didn’t realize that you could do.
This is a brand new school year with no mistakes in it. Let's see what amazing things we can accomplish, together.
See you in class,
Ms. Stacey
