Description
Class Experience
Get ready to level up your grammar and writing skills this summer at Grammar Camp! This two-week camp combines my popular one-time grammar classes into a singular camp, so students can experience a comprehensive grammar course that includes daily review, short homework assignments to reinforce each lesson, and teacher feedback! Students will be introduced to new concepts each day through interactive activities and in-class practice, then given a short homework assignment to complete and turn...
Students will learn about the following grammatical concepts: 1. Sentence Construction & Errors, including: Sentence Fragments, Run-on Sentences, and Confusing Sentences 2. Comma Usage and Errors, including: Introductory Elements, Compound Sentences, Superfluous Commas, & Comma Splices 3. Apostrophe Usage and Errors, including: Contractions, Possessives, and Plurals 4. Subject-Verb Agreement & Parallel Structure 5. Misplaced & Dangling Modifiers, Vague Pronouns, and Common Incorrect Word Usage (ex. accept v except) 6. Peculiar Punctuation Explained, including: Colon, Semicolon, Em Dash, & En Dash 7. Putting it All Together through Review
I have been teaching English and writing to students from middle to graduate school for over 20 years. I've helped students write essays, research papers, SAT essays, college application essays, and even edited PhD dissertations. One of my greatest joys is to break down the (seemingly) daunting task of grammar usage and writing into small, manageable, and easy-to-understand steps. Everyone can write, and it's my job to show them how!
Short homework assignments will be given daily (approx. 10 questions per day); students can choose to do it daily or hand in the entire week at once, due by the following Sunday of each week. Specific teacher feedback will be given to each student so that students know where their strengths lie and where they may need extra study. **Assignments that are turned in late do NOT receive feedback. (Individual cases of illness, power outages, etc. will be reviewed by the teacher and the due dates will be amended accordingly.)**
Each day, a handout will be provided for the student to print out and take notes.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students are assessed through in-class activities, short homework assignments, and teacher feedback.
3 hours 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
