Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Understanding the 8 parts of speech is beneficial for analyzing the meaning of each word. By learning the 8 parts of speech, the child can easily identify a grammatical problem in the sentence, and see whether there is a run-on sentence, a misused pronoun or a problem of the verb agreement.
In this class children make creative choices while learning the Parts of Speech. Age-appropriate activities guide the process of learning and makes it fun to explore and discover various words that help the children understand how a sentence is built.

Students will learn the eight parts of speech (noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection) and articles (a, an, the) in the English language, and their symbolic representation as taught through the Montessori method.

Learning what each shape symbolizes helps the child to retain and understand each part of speech correctly. For eg: verb is represented by an orange ball, the ball represents a movement and the verb means an action. This understanding of co-relation between the part of speech and symbol helps the student understand the parts of speech well.

Class1:
I will teach about Article, Noun, Adjective, Verb, and Preposition. The child will be taught to correctly identify them in a sentence and then represent them symbolically. Through activities like ‘fill up’ and ‘spot on’ these concepts will be re-enforced.
Class2:
Pronoun, Adverb, Conjunction and Interjection will be explained with their symbolic representation. The child will be taught to correctly identify them in a sentence and then represent them symbolically. Through activities like ‘word detective’ and ‘scavenger hunt’ these concepts will be re-enforced.

I will make it easy for child to remember the correct shape that each part of speech represents as it will be explained in a fun story format.
