Grammar Mark Overview! (commas, colons & semicolons)

US Grade 2 - 5
This session will introduce the function and usage of three grammar marks: commas, colons and semicolons. I will use basic notes pages or PowerPoint presentations and concepts to illustrate the usage of each mark. Students will be given practice. The instruction/teaching style is simple and will be lecture based as I will explain each concept somewhat interactively. Students are able to ask questions both during and after instruction as well as during practice. If time permits, I will host a...
Students will learn and practice the basic usages for how to use commas, colons and semicolons. We will first start with an introduction to colons and provide a very basic and easy way to remember their usage. (Colons primarily specify a previous reference) We will then introduce semicolons and their usage. (Semicolons primarily connect related ideas) Students will then be given practice involving the usage of each mark. They will have the opportunity to practice and we will discuss the answers after completion. Afterwards, students will be introduced to key usages of commas including some that are commonly understood and some that are not as commonly understood.
I have trained students privately in writing and language arts the previous 11 years. My first emphasis involved essay writing and instructor students, both children and adults to build essays or improve their written expression because my degree was in communication. Later, I added the literary emphasis to my repertoire as well. Now, I work with students in most common facets of English Language Arts, including reading comprehension, writing, and literature.
Homework Offered
Homework will be optional since it is a single session course and the content is relatively easy. I will send practice to anyone who indicates a willingness to complete it.Assessments Offered
