In this interactive grammar class, we will be looking at the the adjective and its function within sentences. Students will learn what an adjective is and be able to identify whether it is a common adjective or a proper adjective. Class will include some activities, games, and a worksheet to help these concepts stick! Because this is an interactive class, students will be using interactive Zoom features such as the drawing tool, emojis, etc. Students are not required to have their camera on during the duration of the class, but they will benefit the most if they are able to use these tools. Hello! My name is Ms. Joy, and I am so glad you are here! :)
I have been a teacher for over 5 years now both in a brick and mortar school as well as through online platforms. I have taught over 300 students and have much experience teaching elementary classes including reading, writing, language arts, math, science, history, music, art, English and more! I have seen many students succeed and thrive in my classroom as they discover how fun and engaging learning actually is! :)
When I was young, I remembered school and bookwork as being boring and something to get over with. As I continued through my elementary education years, however, I had many teachers that showed me through their enthusiasm and love of both the content they were teaching as well as the students they were teaching just how amazing learning can be! I knew I wanted to be that kind of teacher one day. :) I now have a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a minor in Studio Art, and have since taught 1st, 5th, and 6th grade and online ESL classes over the last 5 years; and I can honestly say that through my years of teaching, there is still nothing so rewarding as seeing a child succeed and thrive!
My classes are packed with content and are intended to be more interactive and engaging in order to help students remember that content and have fun! :) I like to use "memory hooks," a very practical technique that helps students memorize content and subject matter, as well as worksheets, visuals, games, video clips, and songs in my classes. Many students in my classroom (and their parents!) have been surprised with how well they can succeed when given the right tools, instruction, and encouragement. Learning is not a chore! It is an adventure! :)
Other than teaching, I love to spend time playing piano, making art, camping, hiking, cooking, and watching an occasional Hallmark movie! My husband and I have started to realize that I do not have a green thumb (our poor patio plants!), but thankfully, I have managed to keep our 6 fish alive and swimming. So there's a little hope there!
I really look forward to teaching your child, and I hope that they find their experience in my classroom to be one of a kind! :)
