I will introduce three vocabulary words that will be in the chapter. Then students will listen to the next chapter in the story of the English children who live in Grammar Galaxy. We will then discuss the vocabulary introduced in the chapter and students will create sentences using the new words. I will read the letter from the English children telling the class their mission. Their mission will involve solving a problem that the Gremlin has created in the Galaxy. They will solve the problem...
I taught language arts in first and third grade. I have used Grammar Galaxy Nebula with my oldest two children and have enjoyed the literature based and humorous approach to teaching language arts skills.
Students will review the vocabulary words and complete the following: Class 1: Optional: Rewrite the sentence using synonyms for the underlined words. Class 2: Make a word book using the pages provided in your manual or simply in a notebook. Optional: Write a sentence using one of the words from your word book. Class 3: Optional: Write a sentence using a re- or un- word that would solve a problem Prefix has caused. Class 4: Optional: Complete the sentence about the most important suffix. Class 5: Optional: Use the superlatives in a sentence. Class 6: Review your unit test. Note: All assignments listed as optional are pages labeled "For advanced guardians only" in your child's manual.
*If your child did not take part 1* Students will need to purchase the Grammar Galaxy Nebula Homeschool Co-op Mission Manual Digital for $25 from https://grammargalaxybooks.com/product/grammar-galaxy-nebula-homeschool-co-op-mission-manual/ . I am not affiliated with this website. This manual covers 41 weeks of missions and assessments. This class covers missions 8-12 and the second unit assessment. They will also need a highlighter.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Vocabulary words, reading skills, and grammar concepts will be reviewed at the beginning of each mission. A multiple choice unit assessment will also be given at the end of the unit.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
