What academic skills does my child need for Weekly English Grammar? • Spelling well enough to re-read their own work • Reading fluently (or has someone who is willing to read the exercises to be completed) What ‘learning’ skills does my child need for Weekly English Grammar? • Listening to the teacher and classmates • Answering questions, making comments or suggesting ideas during a lesson What skills will my learner develop during Weekly Handwriting? • Increasing your child’s vocabulary e.g. learning the meaning of 'entreated' • Exposing your child to Aesop's fables and other classic tales Please keep your video on during lessons as it is difficult to properly monitor your work if I can not see you. Please make sure that you can quickly switch off your virtual background as backgrounds make it difficult for others to see your work when you hold it up to the screen. Please join the lesson from a quiet place so that the background noise in your home does not make it difficult to hear you when you speak (or you can wear headphones/a headset as these reduce the background noise).
I have taught literature (English Language Arts) to children aged 3-12 for over twenty years. I am particularly passionate about classic literature. I enjoy guiding young learners to understand the vocabulary and complex sentences of classic books and to learn from and love reading texts by authors like William Shakespeare and Charles Dickens. Best of all, I enjoy teaching young learners how to express their own ideas clearly and to communicate their own ideas about the world. Before joining Outschool, I was the headmistress of a primary school (elementary school principal) and I have been a fully qualified classroom teacher for twenty years. I have a postgraduate qualification in education leadership and a bachelor’s degree in primary education. I originally trained in the United States but I qualified in the United Kingdom and I work in London. I have worked with wide range of learners including gifted children; children with special educational needs or disabilities as well as children with a wide range of personalities and levels of motivation. If you have any questions or worries about your learner - please send me a message as I am happy to listen, discuss or advise.
