Class Experience

For a video description of this exciting class, please click this link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0MKdXvb6A6M. NOTE: The video shows a part of this class that I have since separated and made into a separate class called "Grammar Detectives, Don't Let the Monkey Drive the Jeep." I have a separate creative writing activity for this class.

HANDOUTS WILL BE PROVIDED UPON ENROLLING in the class. The handouts included for this class will reinforce the objectives. PLEASE HAVE THEM PRINTED AND CUT OUT BEFORE CLASS. THANKS!

There must be a minimum of 3 students enrolled or it will be canceled up to one hour before the start time. PLEASE NOTE: This class is for 60 minutes. I have not had any issues with kids getting tired as it is a VERY INTERACTIVE class. Some will and they can just sit back and watch or they can leave. I understand. There are so many varieties of learning methods used that time goes by quickly for them. I have asked them if they are tired and want to stop and I get the same answer every time, "No, keep going." Note: I do not do the creative writing booklet with them in class due to time. It adds an extra 15 minutes to the class. There is an activity we do throughout the class that they can do to show their finished work. I offer the flap book as a supplemental activity to be done outside of class.

Please note that I am not basing my knowledge of the Masai people from a one time safari. I never went on a safari. I went and stayed with my aunt and uncle while they were missionaries in Kenya to the Masai. They were missionaries there for 10 years and told me a lot about these beautiful, kind, hardworking people. It is my goal to show the gentle and hardworking spirit of the Masai to my students. I want them to be able to see how children live in Kenya. I use a black puppet dressed like a Masai during one part of the class. The children understand that it is just a puppet. It is a great tool to help them listen and pay attention. Children will listen more to a puppet then a teacher. The puppet tells what his life is like as a Masai child. I tell them things I learned by spending time with the Masai in their villages and from what my uncle taught me.

This very exciting approach to grammar will help the younger ones begin to learn grammar and that learning it can be fun. If you have a child that is 8 or 9 and already understands the four types of sentences very well this can be used as a review. I use many interactive visuals for the children to learn what I am teaching. There will be some creative thinking and writing included for outside of class. They will come away from the class being excited about learning grammar and writing. Your child will begin to notice the different types of sentences used in their own world all around them. At the conclusion of the class, there will be an interactive review. There is no background knowledge needed. I adjust with the students' level of understanding depending on how many are in the class.

Subjects covered in this class: science, grammar, writing, geography. This class is filled with adventure as we travel to Africa.

During this class, students will ride along as we go on an African safari. They will be on a mission to find the missing photographs from the safari guide's tour book. We will be following a safari map that will send us to amazing places where the wild animals roam. When finished they will be rewarded with their very own tour guidebook with four different types of sentences and the correct punctuation mark just like the safari guide uses on his tours. This is by far my most favorite class. There is so much to learn. Geography, grammar, history, and creative writing (optional activity for outside of class) are included. We learn about the sentence types, listen to a puppet Maasai boy, watch videos, find pictures with sentences, and interact the whole time. Your child will love the excitement of this class.

Please check out my other Grammar Detective class. They are very popular. I do offer a Grammar Detective Flex Bundle and Bundle 2 is being developed. I have a great love for English and making a subject that tends to be very boring, instead come to life as they realize that grammar is all around them. Join in the fun!
