Class Experience

US Grade 3
Please know that your learner can jump in at any point to attend this class! This class will include engaging, interesting lessons so students will look forward to learning about English grammar.

Our weekly topics with dates can be found in the outline below. We will include fun games and activities to better understand sometimes confusing topics. Our goal is to improve English speaking and writing skills and well as learners' confidence! They will become better communicators in both written and spoken language!

The topics discussed in this class will be the most commonly taught concepts for United States grade 3. This correlates with ages 7-10 years. This class fits into the “Intermediate level or B1-B2” for Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

This class is not comprehensive, but will lay a solid foundation for future, continued learning! We will rotate through lessons, beginning with easier concepts, and gradually progress to more difficult ones. It is important to remember that all students learn at different paces! Please follow the topics and date outline below to determine the current topic and difficulty level we are studying together in class.

Students will be asked to keep a Grammar Notebook during this class which they will keep handwritten notes and possibly copies of handouts (provided by the teacher) with grammar rules. Please see the materials section of this class description for more details on this notebook.

An important component to learning grammar, is listening to/hearing the English language in "real-life" usage! This is why, during portions of this class, the instructor, Ms. Jackie, will sometimes read from a popular, age-appropriate novel.

We will work through grammar tasks and activities together as a class, and will often participate in fun, grammar games! An environment of learning from mistakes will be created so all students feel comfortable sharing and answering questions.

Prior experience speaking, reading, and writing the English language at a lower elementary level is required. This includes all topics learned in Kindergarten, first, and second grade levels.

I am hoping your learner will join us to learn about the following topics!

Parental Guidance
Occasionally, an Outschool-approved video from an external website may be shown during class to enhance learning. These will be age-appropriate and relevant to the grammar topic being discussed.
Supply List
Students will be asked to keep a Grammar Notebook during this class in which they will record the grammar rules we learn each session. They will also complete short homework assignments in this notebook.
1. I recommend a single-subject COMPOSITION NOTEBOOK that is WIDE-RULED. At my local store, these cost only $0.97. If students participate in ALL sessions for this class (over a year), a second notebook may be needed.
2. I also recommend a pack of FINE LINE (FINE TIP) washable markers. I use a Crayola pack with 10 colors, but any brand is fine as long as the markers will not bleed through a notebook page to the next page.
3. Finally, we may use SCISSORS and a GLUESTICK to occasionally paste handouts into this notebook as well.
4. A PRINTER is needed in order to print optional handouts. As an option, students may hand-write these handouts into their notebooks or keep electronically.

Bachelor's Degree in Science from Oakland University
I graduated from high school as a class valedictorian, achieving a 4.0 grade point average. I graduated college with my undergraduate Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences and my graduate Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy with a high grade point average. I have written hundreds of collegiate-level papers, including a doctoral research practicum. I presented this research at a professional conference as well. In order to accomplish all of this, my English grammar writing and speaking skills had to be exemplary.

I will also include that, as part of my Doctoral degree, I received instruction on Educational Theory and Practice which assists me greatly in providing instruction to children. Furthermore, I served as a college-level Teaching Assistant for two separate semester classes. Please read my profile bio to read more about my experiences!
