Effective writing is an essential skill in school and at work. This session is a mix of lecture, demonstration, practice, sharing, and discussion. Students will learn about the impact of beginning sentences with prepositional phrases, dependent clauses, adjectives, and adverbs instead of with the subject of the sentence as a way to break the most common and predictable pattern in English: subject + verb + more words. I will demonstrate this and then ask students to write their own examples....
Students will improve their academic and creative writing by practicing beginning sentences in a variety of ways that are much less common and predictable than the usual: subject then verb then more words. Students will learn

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
