Class Experience

I like my learners to understand where the art form originated from and how we can use it in our artwork today. The Learners will be shown a short clip about the History of Graffiti. Afterwards we will discuss what they learned. Learners will then be introduced to graffiti styles, and how to draw their own name in a graffiti. I will be guiding them on how to create various types of lettering for their name. Learners will be introduced to two elements of art, color theory using colored pencils and pattern, using sharpies.
I will demonstrate how to transform basic letters into a graffiti style letter. The learners will chose their coloring and patterns that they will use on their name.
No required experience or knowledge is needed.

About me :
Hi my name is Gloria Nicholson. I am a certified art teacher and have taught middle school art for 14 years. I attended Central Connecticut State University where I received my teacher certification along with a B.S. and M.S in art education. My focus in art for my Bachelors was printmaking and my focus in art for my Masters degree was oil painting.

My philosophy:
The students in my art classes should feel that they can learn in a positive environment. I know that every student learns differently, and my goal is to meet that student's learning need and to make sure that they come away from my class feeling successful.

My Classes:
I will be teaching various art classes that will focus on drawing shapes and giving them the illusion of 3D form. Students will be able to learn the different techniques of creating value and how to use the art elements to create the illusion of form on a flat surface. They will be using various media, like oil pastels, colored pencils, ebony pencils and charcoal. They will be drawing still life, landscapes, Graffiti names, drawing buildings in 2 point perspective, drawing flat shapes and objects and giving them the illusion of 3 dimensional form. They will be learning about perspective, rendering, and art history as pertaining to the art style or subject matter.
In my free time I love riding my bike, playing the piano and traveling. I’ve been to 12 different countries. But most of all I love teaching children about art!
