Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 8
Intermediate - Advanced Level
This 8-week course will cover 7th & 8th Grade English Language Arts Common Core Writing Standards in a multi-age setting. Writing development is a lifelong journey that is composed of many complex concepts and understandings that are not limited to the written Western page. Writing includes the capacity to communicate, think, explore, and solve problems through creative and analytical compositions. Writing skills are used in paper, digital, and live interactions where people:

- Craft compelling narratives and arguments
- Develop and support claims with evidence
- Create a variety of creative and analytical content
- Use writing for self-expression and reflection
- Make connections between ideas and texts
- Engage in writing workshops and peer review
- And more!

With a variety of writing prompts, exercises, and projects, learners will have the opportunity to deepen their writing skills as they work with engaging and challenging content… all the while participating in focused writing workshops and deepening their understanding of the writing process.

Learners should be prepared to engage with the material and their fellow peers to the best of their personal abilities. I will make sure that all feel safe and welcome in my class and leave with a positive view of writing!

I have 20 years experience working with teens with academics and creativity, whether it may be with sharpening writing skills, honing in on proper grammar, and even discovering one's true writer's voice. Literature studies are the backbone of any society and bridge the gap between distant and not so distant timelines, ethnicities, cultures, and moral values that propel humanity forward.
