US Grade 5
In class, students will learn a 5th-grade math curriculum based on ixl's common core curriculum. We will cover topics including place value and number sense, addition and subtraction, multiplication, division, exponents, number theory, decimals, and more. There are 31 topics, each with multiple subtopics that we will cover. Since this is the whole 5th-grade math curriculum, it will take approximately half the year to complete. The goal is the cover multiple topics in each class, but at a pace where students can ask questions and get plenty of practice. I will introduce the topic and subtopics, present examples, receive questions, solve problems with the students as a team, and also have students solve problems individually. I am very encouraging and patient and offer plenty of opportunities to the student feels confident asking questions. Students will listen to instruction and examples, solve problems together, and individually. Students are allowed to be unmuted and speak freely, as long as they listen to others and speak in turn. I will use the whiteboard to teach and add problems for students. Students will need to have basic math skills and should currently be in or have completed the 4th grade. I will allow students to join if they want a challenge and have not completed the required grade(s). Here are some topics with dates below. Week of January 31st: Place Value and Number Sense Week of February 7th: Addition and Subtraction Week of Feb 14th: Multiplication Week of February 21st: Division more topics will be added. It is suggested that students have a whole notebook devoted to this class, so they can easily refer to notes taken during class, and assignments. Have plenty of pencils available too. I hope to see you in class soon!!!!
