Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
We will be teaching Grade 1 Math.  The class may have worksheets and activities. We may use games, slides, video, images, manipulatives to teach the material. We will be using the interactive whiteboard on Zoom so students are encouraged to provide their responses using a mouse, in the chat box or using a drawing tablet. Previous Kindergarten Math experience or knowledge would be recommended because the curriculum moves quite fast. 

Tentative Schedule: (Note: progression of lesson may vary depending on the needs and understanding of students) 

Week (Jan 8) Grade 1A Facts within 0-10
covers: addition, sums with 1,5,6,7,8,9,10, which is more, comparison, missing items

Week (Jan 15) Facts within 0-10 and subtraction
covers: comparison, missing items, taking away, count down to subtract, when can you subtract, two parts, differences, how many more problems

Week (Jan 22) Place Value 0-100
covers: counting in groups of 10, building numbers 11-40

Week (Jan 29) Place Value 0-100
covers: building numbers 41-100, 100 chart, add and subtract whole tens, practicing with numbers, bar graphs

Week (Feb 5) Place Value 0-100
covers: tally marks, numbers past 100, number chart, number lines

Week (Feb 12) Grade 1B Addition and Subtract Facts
covers: Addition and subtractions facts with 4, 5, 6, 7

Week (Feb 19) Addition and Subtraction Facts
covers: Addition and subtractions facts with 8,9,10

Week (Feb 26) Time
covers: whole and half hour, minutes, half hour

covers: am and pm, calendar, half hour, word problem

covers: basic shapes, playing with shapes, drawing basic shapes, halves and quarters

Week (April 1) Addition and subtraction within 0-100
covers: adding without carrying, subtraction without borrowing, adding or subtracting two digit numbers

Week (April 8) Addition and subtraction within 0-100
covers: going over ten, completing the next ten, subtract from whole tens, adding within 20

Week (April 15) Addition and subtraction within 0-100
covers: subtract to 10, pictographs, just one more 

Week (April 22) Addition and subtraction within 0-100
covers: adding trick with 9 and 8, subtract to 10, pictograph, word problem

Week (April 29) Coins
covers: counting money, dimes, nickels, cents, quarters

Other Details

Parental Guidance
We may use Google Forms, Google Docs, Google Slides and Google Sheets, for teaching our class and for informal assessments during our class. Student will not require a Gmail account to use them. We will be using screen share only. For class notes, I will be using Zoom Screen Share to share the material in class. Students will be predominately writing in their own lined paper, notebook, or worksheets.

I have over 17 years of teaching experience in classrooms and in one to one tutoring settings. I believe in lifelong learning. I graduated with a Bachelor of Education in Elementary with a Math and Science specialization. I also completed a Diploma in Early Years Education, Certificate in Kindergarten, Diploma in Special Education, and Certificate in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language). I have worked with student ages from Pre-K to Grade 12.

I believe every student can learn and each student may learn differently. My job as an educator is to teach students and provide them with new challenges that stimulate their own thinking and inspire them to enjoy learning.
