Class Experience

US Grade 1
This Grade One Homeroom class will meet twice weekly for 45 minutes each.

Each class will begin with a quick catch up before moving in to Calendar and Weather (10-15 minutes)
Each week will focus on one math concept (15 minutes) and one language component (15 minutes)
Students will be encouraged to participate and share their thoughts within the group setting.

Week 1: September 11 and September 13 - Single Digit addition and Letter Sound Identification
Week 2: September 18 and September 20 - Single Digit subtraction and Vowels (number lines)
Week 3:  September 25 and September 27 - Word problems and reading comprehension
Week 4: October 2 and October 4 - Counting by 2's and Contractions
Week 5: October 10 and 11 - Graphing and CVC words
Week 6: October 16 and October 18 - Counting by 5's and Letter Review
Week 7: October 23 and October 25 - Intro to time and CVC words
Week 8: October 30 and November 1 - Graphing and Reading Comprehension
Week 10: November 27 and November 29 - Welcome back and Review week!
Week 11: December 4 and December 6 - Time and Punctuation
Week 12: December 11 and December 13 - Canadian Coins and Sight Words
Week 13: December 18 and December 20 - Shapes and Capital Letters

This is a hands on and social class that will foster connections and communication between students. It is my goal to have the same students each week so we can learn and grow together. I will be available to provide extra help to those who need it after class.

Parental Guidance
The use of scissors may be required for some classes - but parents will know ahead of time.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

I am an Ontario certified Teacher with 10 years of classroom experience in the public school setting, and over 20 years of experience in various childcare settings.

I am qualified to teach Science, Math, Language Arts and Social Studies - with an additional qualification, and specialization in Kindergarten. 

I believe in providing young learners with the opportunity to make connections between the material being taught and their own lived experiences.
