This 6 Week Flexible Ballet Course is aimed at children aged 8 - 12 years. It is suitable for children who have taken my Primary/Pre-Grade 1 Ballet courses or those with approximately 1-2 years of previous ballet experience. It is ideal for those who cannot attend my live classes or require the flexibility of being able to practice in their own time. A huge advantage to taking a flexible course is the ability to practice the weekly videos over and over. Learners are encouraged to upload their own videos to the classroom so that I can offer feedback during the course and also to build a comradery with fellow learners. This Course will teach and practice Grade 1 Ballet exercises from the NCDTA Syllabus. The NCDTA Exam Board is one of the main Professional Dance Teachers Associations, established in the U.K. in 1925. It is a core member of the 'British Dance Council', 'Theatre Dance Council International' and 'Sports & Recreation Alliance' with thousands of children studying the NCDTA technique and taking exams each year. Dance is an art-form which requires practice to master techniques. Learners will be encouraged to practice. Each week the videos will both build-on and practice techniques learned. The core syllabus will be the NCDTA Grade 1. Each week there will be both an instructional lesson and a practice video version. Week 1:- Introduction Warm Up Barre Technique Exercises (Focus on Feet positions, Demi-Plies & Rises) Centre Technique Exercises (Arm positions, Soubresaut & Changements) Dance - learn first section Reverence Ballet Theory - Plie, Demi Week 2:- Warm Up Barre Technique Exercises (Focus on Battement Tendus) Centre Technique Exercises (Degages, Simple Coupes) Dance - learn second section Reverence Ballet Theory - Devant, Derriere, Coupe Week 3:- Warm Up Barre Technique Exercises (Focus on Grand Battement) Centre Technique Exercises (As Week 2 and adding more exercises - Exercise for Transfer of Weight) Dance - learn third section Reverence Ballet Theory - En Avant, En Arriere Week 4:- Warm Up Barre Technique Exercises (Focus on Battement Glisse & Petit Retire) Centre Technique Exercises (Focus on Polka Step) Dance - learn fourth section Reverence Ballet Theory - Degage, Temps Leve, Pose Week 5:- Warm Up Barre Technique Exercises (Focus on Performance) Centre Technique Exercises (Focus on Enchainment) Dance - Focus on arm and head positions. Reverence Weekly Challenge Each week I shall set a challenge for the learners to participate in. E.g. Week 1 will be the "The Balance Challenge". Learners will practice and then post a video of their balance by the end of the week. Weekly Ballet Theory Handout Each week I will post a handout with the new ballet theory words of the week for learners to practice and learn the English meaning of the French words. Teaching Style & Interaction:- I have a positive approach to teaching. As this is a flexible course there are no live meetings; however I will be available via the classroom for feedback and support. I will reply to all messages/videos within 24 hours of them being posted. I encourage learners to post in the classroom, interact with each other as well as myself. Let's share the love of dance!

Parental Guidance
Please ensure children have enough space to move around while following along with the class videos. Remove anything they may bump into or knock down (e.g. your expensive vase!)
Class Attire:- Please wear appropriate free-moving clothes e.g. tee-shirt with leggings, leotard and wear either ballet shoes, bare-feet or non-slip dance socks while they are practicing. Check the floor surface isn't slippery.
Fitness:- Your child should be in a fit and healthy state. Please check with your doctor if you have any concerns.
Barre Work: There is barre work in the Grade 1 Ballet syllabus. Your child does not need a barre for this. They can use an 'imaginary' barre or a chair.
Instructional Videos will be uploaded (unlisted) to YouTube. These will be embedded into the Outschool Classroom and do not require you to have a Youtube Account.
Supply List
Handouts with the Grade 1 Ballet Theory words will be provided weekly for students to learn.
