Beginner - Advanced Level
This two-semester course will provide a fun (& engaging) look into Gothic Literature... At the beginning of the meeting, we will cover popular Authors of the week - Several of which we will be reading the material of. We'll discuss their connections, inspirations, home life, the amazing things that make them unique, etc. Following - We will review the significant details of the reading material for the week - Students need to pre-read the material before class. (I can provide digital copies upon student request and help any students who struggle with the material.) We will break down settings, analyze character development (or lack thereof), enjoy some vocabulary words, have some in-depth discussions, etc. We will also be covering literary elements, writing elements, and creative tips that the authors used. Activities: Each week we will have interactive posts on the classroom page or in-class activities meant to help the students engage with the material. There will be several big activities throughout the 32 weeks - We will cover writing elements but students may use their artistic skills to complete those activities as well. (Drawing, Sculpting, Videography, etc.) Reading needs to be done before lessons - Check Syllabus: Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde Poetry by Emily Dickinson A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gillman The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson Poetry by Edgar Allan Poe The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Dracula by Bram Stoker Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

Learning Needs
I have experience working with many unique students and am always happy to do what I can to make their time enjoyable. My message box is open 24/7 - One-on-one messaging is always encouraged for anyone who needs further assistance.
Parental Guidance
As these are stories written in the 1800s - A time in which death and corruption were a serious influence on the lives of the writers - There will be heated topics such as murder, death, addiction, etc. We will very briefly cover these topics but in a respectful light and with caution.
Many of these writers had ties to (what we call today) the LGBTQA+ community. For quite a few of them, this is what defined who they were. Such facts will not be omitted from their history lessons.
