US Grade 2 - 5
**If you don't see a suitable section, please feel free to request a time that works for you!** It's time to step up our vocabulary game. In this ongoing, bi-weekly class, students will get to play quick and exciting games that will add to their vocabulary, increase reading comprehension, and improve their writing. Often times, vocabulary lessons emphasize the spelling of a word and save little time for students to actually comprehend its meaning. This leads to a gap in the child's reading comprehension and can decrease their confidence! To combat this phenomenon, I incorporate a variety of active, hands-on activities that will allow your child to make connections that stick and to practice these words to mastery. Each week, we will be introducing a new list of about 5-10 vocabulary words based on the theme of the week. This way, your student will get 2 sessions and extra practice to master 5-10 new words each week, all while having fun. The structure of the class will start with introductions and the words of the session. Students will complete a quick activity to get a general understanding of the word. After, we will play a theme related comprehension game. To close out, we will play another quick review game if time permits. Learners should expect a highly interactive space. I will also provide extended practice worksheets that students can complete outside of class sessions. Here is the layout: Week of 10/3 L words & games Week of 10/7 Video games Week of 10/14 V words & games Week of 10/21 Doctor words & games Week of 10/28 U words & games Week of 11/14 Travel words & games Week of 11/21 G words & games Week of 11/28 Gifting words & games Can't wait to see you in this competitive, ongoing class!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Grand Canyon University
Greetings! Welcome to my page.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from California State University of Long Beach. I obtained my Masters in Elementary Education and Multi-Subject Credential at Grand Canyon University. Since high school, I have been teaching, tutoring, and creating with learners between the ages of 6-18. I have taught in an academic cohort, and have also developed a summer academic enrichment camp. I have been an instructor on Reconstruction and Liberated Minds Homeschool Hueniversity and am currently with AYA Educational Institute and Kamali Academy.
Teaching, learning, and creating are my passion. I teach classes on reading, reading comprehension, writing, mixed media and graphic art, ceramics, ourstory (history), and topics related to Black/Afrikan, Olmec, and Mayan cultures. I educate from an Afrikan-Centered base and give students the space to know who they are culturally. I have helped many struggling readers improve their confidence, fluency, and comprehension over the last 5 years. In my experience, blending art, games, and creativity with tough academic subjects inspires a love of learning.
In every setting I find myself in, I strive to make it a child-centered experience that encourages positive self-concepts, creativity, and critical thinking. Games are my jam-so for any of those with that competitive spirit, my classes might be for you. I also encourage discussion and interaction, as I believe learning happens best when we engage with others.
Some of my personal interests are: listening to Afrikan music, creating art, spending time with family, playing soccer, gardening, and reading! Right now, some side projects I have going on are taking care of my plants, and making my own website. Hope to see you all in my next class, thanks for stopping by!
