Class Experience

Beginner Level
Ever wanted to know how to create cool, gory makeup looks like you see in movies or on TikTok? Curious about how to use liquid latex but not sure how it works? Did you know you can make fake blood you can EAT?! In this 4 week Flex class, you will learn all that and more!

In this flex class, each lesson focuses on a different aspect of gore makeup and the supplies you need to create incredible looks. By the final lesson, you will know how to create realistic Zombie Makeup, a Dangling Eyeball Prosthetic, several gory wounds, and different types of fake blood! Each week, students will be asked to practice the makeup they learned, show video or photo documentation of their work, and answer a questions about the lesson. They can also interact with me and each other through posting to the classroom page. Each week, they will also be given an SFX and Cosplay Scavenger Hunt searching for materials they can use in their makeup or costumes.

Bruises and Blood!
You'll learn what supplies you need, where to find them or how to make them at home, how to create new and old bruises, and apply them in different ways to give character to costumes and cosplays!

Gashes and Claw Wounds!
In this lesson, you will learn how to make several different kind of fake bloods - from drippy to gel to blood you can eat! Then you will learn how to create basic cuts using liquid latex or liquid latex substitutes, and finally, a gory claw wound!

Bullet Wound and Scar Wax
In this lesson, you'll learn how to create bullet wounds AND will learn how to use Scar Wax! With this lesson, you will get to practice your bruising and make fake blood, building on the previous lessons.

Pencil in the Nose and Knife in the Hand!
Using skills learned in the previous lessons, you will learn how to make it look like you have a Pencil shoved through your nose AND a Knife (plastic) sticking out of your hand! Using household items and plastic utensils (no real knives please), you will create looks you can add to any Halloween costume or gory cosplay!

Glass Shards and Playing Cards
In this lesson, students will learn how to make it look like they have glass shards sticking out of their face or hands, how to create a big glass shard prosthetic they can reuse, and create the classic bloody Playing Card sticking out of the face look.

 Zombie Bite and Zombie Makeup
In this lesson, students will learn how to create a realistic Zombie bite, apply gross Zombie makeup (they can even use their dangling eyeball from the previous lesson) and even learn how to create a Zombie costume! This look will incorporate aspects of all the previous lessons, allowing the students to practice their new skills and create a full costume design they can use for Halloween, cosplays, TikTok, and more!
Learning Goals
To learn basic and more advanced special fx makeup, how to use the different supplies, and how to apply their knowledge to other makeup looks they want to create.

Parental Guidance
In this class, students will be learning about special fx gore makeup and will be using materials that often can be messy. Please make sure they have a space that's easy to clean for practice and that their clothes are covered when using the makeup. Liquid latex can cause allergies in kids allergic to latex, so if your child has a latex allergy, please use the alternative options I am providing in the supply list and lessons. Please make sure your student keeps up a good skincare routine when practicing makeup and too much use of special fx makeup can make your face break out from over-washing and clogged pores if the skin is not cleaned well. No items will be used in the class that can hurt the children, but if your child is under 10 years old and using scissors to trim materials, etc, please step in and help.
Supply List
Liquid Latex (Alternatives are school glue and flour or eyelash glue - they don't work as well as liquid latex, but will do the job!)
Foundation or concealer in student's skin tone

Makeup or eyeshadow in shades of red, purple, brown, black, green, blue

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am an actor, filmmaker, and special fx and cosplay makeup artist with a degree in theater from the University of Mobile Alabama School of the Arts. I have been working in film, theater, and makeup for over a decade in Alabama and Atlanta, Georgia, and have been teaching makeup on Outschool for over two years. I have taught makeup to both children and adults and I love sharing my knowledge with anyone who will listen! I break down my process in a way that makes it accessible for even the least experienced makeup artist and make a point to show you how to use all the materials correctly so you do not get lost along the way.
