In this two week course, students learn how to utilize Google Docs for essay and research purposes. We will work through how to utilize each tab within the platform, and also how to properly set up an academic paper using the platform.

Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
Most features of Google Docs will be instructed: editing, formatting, font sizes and font options, spacing, spell check, indentations, how to download a document, and many other tabs offered via the platform. The class is structured in an interactive approach, allowing students to participate actively in class and be encouraged to ask questions throughout. My teaching style has always been hands on, which definitely creates to a more positive learning experience overall! Topics covered include how to set up an academic paper using the system, and how to take advantage of Google Doc's many features.

Students will get to interact with Google Docs directly, and before diving in get to see how it works through useful interactive instruction. For instance, first class will constitute me screen sharing and showing what each tab's purpose is for, and then showing how to use them when writing on the platform. Then, later on in the class, students will get to use Google Docs directly, to get hands on practice with the system.

Lesson 1:
What is Google Docs?
 Google Docs system and its many purposes. This lesson will provide a brief overview of Google Docs by me screen sharing, so that students feel prepared in working directly with the document platform. I will walk students through each feature through this live interactive approach. Each student will get a chance to use Google Docs and ask questions about its many features.

Lesson 2:
How to Use Google Docs When Writing
 This lesson will show students how to set up a document using Google Docs. There are various academic standards that can be encouraged at a younger age, such as setting up double spacing, using a professional font and font size, inserting page numbers and headers, and a using proper title. We will go through all of these standards together as a class. I will show students how to directly download and save a document to their computers through this class as well.

Lesson 3:
Let's Put it Into Motion: Using Google Docs Together
 This class will be interactive, allowing each student to attempt to utilize the platform on their own. I will give students simple tasks to perform on their document systems for practice in order to gauge if they figured out how to operate the platform! For notable feedback after the lesson, parents are able to share those documents directly with me them to me via Outschool.

Lesson 4:
Google Docs Recap and Wrap Up
 This last lesson will be devoted to wrapping up how to utilize the Google Docs platform effectively. I will again be screen sharing and recapping on the many options that Google Docs has to offer such as, formatting, adding images, adding graphs, typing with specific fonts and font sizes, editing spacing, and adding comments directly to your document.

A prerequisite suggested is a need to submit essays for classes and utilize Google Docs within learner's life.

As an English major in college, I have used Google Docs for just about every single academic paper that I submitted. I feel that preparing our younger generations now will get them suited to being more capable of utilizing the platform in their future academic endeavors.
