1 hour per week. Students will have 10 minutes of additional practice per night, four nights per week. This will include math flashcard practice and math drill sheets. This additional practice is a necessary component to student success in this course.Class Experience

Mastery of math facts is the most crucial component to a student's mathematical foundation, yet so many students struggle in this area. This course utilizes a carefully designed repetition-based approach that enables students to achieve mastery. This achievement will serve as the bedrock for improving their overall math skills and building confidence in their learning abilities. Our focus for this course will be on division facts, and we will cover specific sets of facts each week. We will continually review all sets of facts to ensure complete mastery. It is important to note that homework practice is an essential part of a child's success in this course. The course schedule will be as follows: Week 1: Class Intro & Division Facts (1s, 2s, 3s, and 4s) Week 2: Division Facts (5s and 6s) Week 3: Division Facts (Review 1s - 6s) Week 4: Division Facts (7s and 8s) Week 5: Division Facts (9s, 10s, and 11s) Week 6: Division Facts (12s) Week 7: Division Facts (Review 7s - 12s) Week 8: Division Facts (Review 1s - 12s) & Celebration! The format for each session will be structured as follows: 5 minutes: Check-In/Flashcard Warm-Up 10 minutes: Skip Counting/Facts Practice 5 minutes: Math Drill Sheet 5 minutes: Check Math Drill Sheet (to provide students immediate feedback of progress) 5 minutes: Game/Practice We will work hard, but we will have fun and often incorporate games into our practice! As a prerequisite for this course, students should have addition and subtraction facts mastered and should be able to demonstrate a general understanding of multiplication and division. *Please note that if you are registering for the section starting in April, the 5/4 class will be a pre-recorded class for students to view. *Please note that if you are registering for the section starting in June, the 7/4 class will be a pre-recorded class for students to view.

I love math! Math is my specialty. I have spent a significant amount of time in classrooms, working with teachers and students, and pouring over data to understand what works. I understand the components necessary for student success.
Mathematics is a complex subject that includes a variety of topics. It is a subject that is unforgiving. Concepts build upon one another. Mastery of each must be attained for students to be adequately prepared to move forward. A strong foundation of arithmetic mastery must be built early on for students to be successful in higher mathematics, yet many text books and math programs only gloss over these skills. This leaves our students feeling defeated and makes it very difficult. It creates a cycle that is often hard to break.
I want to help with that. I teach through a mastery-based approach and place a strong emphasis on building that sturdy foundation. It is my goal to not just help students understand individual concepts, but to embrace mathematics as a whole and realize that they can do hard things. It lights me up to see a child break through and really begin to master concepts - to develop a confidence that was never thought possible.
