Class Experience

Lexy is a five-year-old Tyrannosaurus rex. She likes to spend time in her eggshell because it is like a security blanket. Her favorite color is purple, and she just went to the dentist!

In this live one-time online class, I will introduce everyone to Lexy, a T-Rex (puppet) who just went to the dentist. She had many fears going in, and we will open class with a discussion of any hopes or fears the children may have about their first visit to the dentist. Lexy drew pictures of her visit to the dentist, and I will tell the story that goes with the pictures. We'll finish class thanking Lexy for sharing and giving each other one last pep talk before we say good-bye.

Teacher expertise and credentials
[Pronouns: they/he] My goal as an educator is to inspire curiosity, compassion, and creativity in the next generation of global citizens. I have 20 years of experience in various educational settings, including a daycare, two children's museums, a storyteller's stage, two university tutoring centers, and online as a teacher of English as a second language. I hold a BA in creative writing with a minor in studio arts from Metropolitan State University (St. Paul).

I offer classes that embody my passions: travel, storytelling, history, literature, science, art, and early-childhood education. My teaching style is marked by patience, gentleness, and humor—less Elmo, more Mister Rogers. I believe it is essential for children to learn the importance of asking "why." My greatest asset as a teacher is adapting quickly to the needs and skills of my students.

Beyond teaching, i am a published essayist and poet. I currently reside in Minneapolis. My interests include linguistics, travel, volunteering, heraldry, graphic design, video games, and caring for my pet lovebird, Buddy.
