This is a fun and engaging unit on fractured fairy tales, or fairy tales that take a classic fairy tale or children's story and adds a twist, changes characters, or makes it more modern (Think: language and setting). Students will learn the elements of fractured fairy tales, listen to and read various diverse fairy tales, and will finally use their imaginations to write their own! Suggested fairy tales to "fracture" will be Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the...
Students will need to work on their fairy tale outside of class.
Any and all handouts will be provided in the classroom. Learners will need to choose how they would like to write their stories: either on a word processing program on the computer, such as Google Docs or Microsoft Word, or with pen and paper. Students may also choose to add artwork to their stories, so art supplies may be needed.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
