Class Experience

The 12 Olympians lived on Mount Olympus and were the major gods of Greek Mythology. They were a part of many incredible stories, myths, and legends. In this one time class, students will explore and learn more about how the 12 Olympians came to be through a slide show presentation, videos, and storytelling and discussion. We will learn about the gods Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Dionysus, Hermes, Apollo, and Ares and the goddesses Artemis, Demeter, Athena, Hera and Aphrodite who make up the 12 Olympians. Students will also learn about the heroes and mortals Perseus, Hercules, and Helen. We will be discussing and exploring the Trojan War and the stories and myths associated with these gods, goddesses, heroes and mortals. The subjects covered will be Social Studies, Science, and Mythology. We will watch a clip from the movie, "Clash of the Titans" and also refer to informative flash cards and read from the National Geographic book, "Treasury of Greek Mythology" by Donna Jo Napoli. This class accompanies the Go Greek or Go Home: Intro to Greek Mythology course, but explores the 12 Olympians in more detail.
