For Ancient Greeks, Greek Mythology served as a religion and a way to relate to the world around them. It has many incredible and epic stories, myths, and legends of gods, goddesses, heroes, and creatures. It also involved mortals who were a part of two worlds and stories about how these worlds collided. Students will improve and explore their understanding of Greek Mythology.
Homework will be posted weekly and may involve, but not limited to: posting in the weekly classroom discussions, reviewing a slide presentation, watching videos and reading about Greek Mythology, completing worksheets and quizzes and/or tests.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Greek Mythology and particularly this subject matter will contain images on the subjects of war which may contain violence and lead to political discussions about the Greek political system both in Greek Mythology and modern times. This can include topics that are violent or sexual in nature, or that touch on sensitive political discussions. All discussions and learning will be conducted in a manner suitable for children. Some video content from the movie, "Clash of the Titans" will be used. Some images from Greek Mythology used in this course may contain "monsters" or images, although not real and only in mythology, that some may find disturbing or frightening. PARENTAL GUIDANCE IS STRONGLY ADVISED.
The National Geographic book, "Treasury of Greek Mythology" by Donna Jo Napoli; clips from the movie, "Clash of the Titans" and the Percy Jackson Series of books.
