Class Experience

Folding paper stars is a fun and relaxing craft that yields adorable results. It's also a great way to hone your fine motor skills. You can fold stars to keep your hands busy while watching TV, or to take a brain break from studying/homework. With a bit of practice, you'll be able to make tons of stars in no time at all. It's also easy to make them super unique! Since all you need for this craft is some paper, you can cut strips from paper with fun patterns or your favorite colors to experiment with different aesthetics.

Once you've made enough stars to fill the sky, you can do a variety of things with them, like:
-Filling a jar or small pouch as a decoration or a gift
-Writing secret notes inside before you fold them
-Gluing or taping them to paper to add some depth to a painting or drawing
-Threading them with string to make a garland or hanging mobile

This class will be mainly instructional and will follow an "I do, we do, you do" model. We'll start by introducing ourselves to each other, and then I'll go through the process of folding a star one step at a time to show everyone how to make one. This will allow students to observe and practice their active listening. Next, I'll go through the process again, this time having the students fold their stars with me to give them a chance to experience the steps hands-on. Once the students feel comfortable with the steps to make a paper star, I'll give them some time to fold a star independently. At each step of the process, students will have a chance to ask questions to clarify anything they're unsure about if they get stuck on one of the steps.

At the end of class, I'll show some examples of what I've done with stars I've made. I'll also discuss with the students what they plan to do with their stars and if they enjoyed class!

Supply List
All you’ll need for this class are some strips of paper! You can purchase them on Amazon (I've provided an example of one under External Resources), or cut your own out of whatever paper you have at home. If you cut your own, you'll want the strips to be about 1/2" wide and 9" long.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Ms. Lindsay. I teach classes on a variety of topics, including video games, anime, baking, crafts, and more! These are my personal interests and hobbies that I spend a ton of time learning about myself, and I'm excited that I have the opportunity to share my love of these topics with others.

In 2017, I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, and my focuses were art and business. I have experience working with young children through leading storytime/arts & crafts at my local library, as well as tutoring students in English and Reading. I have also worked with foreign students who speak different languages to strengthen their pronunciation and conversational skills.

When it comes to my teaching style, I believe it’s important to have fun in class, and focus on students' interests to keep them engaged in their education. I also work hard to foster a positive and uplifting classroom environment, to boost confidence and encourage students to be proud of who they are! Ultimately, students should look forward to having class, instead of feeling like it's boring or something that they're required to do.

I'm looking forward to meeting all of those awesome learners out there. See you in class!
