Class Experience

In this exciting Minecraft class, students will embark on a variety of adventures, from building survival camps to hunting, mining, and crafting. The ultimate goal is to defeat challenging foes like the Ender Dragon and possibly even the Wither. Along the way, students will develop essential communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, all within the immersive world of Minecraft.

What Will Be Taught?

Students will learn the fundamentals of Minecraft survival mode, including resource gathering, crafting, and base building. They’ll also explore advanced strategies like team-based combat, efficient mining techniques, and the intricacies of protecting their creations from threats. Additionally, we’ll focus on effective communication and collaboration, as these skills are key to succeeding in the game and beyond.

Topics Covered:

Building Survival Camps: Students will learn how to construct shelters, farms, and defenses.
Resource Gathering: Mining for essential resources like iron, diamonds, and redstone.
Crafting: Understanding recipes and creating tools, weapons, and armor.
Teamwork and Communication: Collaborating with teammates to achieve common goals.
Combat Strategies: Tips and tricks for taking on the Ender Dragon and Wither.
Problem-Solving: Overcoming obstacles and adapting to unexpected challenges.
Class Structure:

The class is designed to be flexible and accommodating. Each session is independent, so students can join at any time without feeling left behind. Typically, a class session will include:

Introduction: We’ll start with a brief overview of the day’s objectives and any necessary instructions.
Gameplay: Students will dive into the Minecraft world, working together to complete tasks, build structures, or face off against in-game challenges.
Discussion and Reflection: We’ll wrap up with a group discussion to reflect on what was learned, share experiences, and celebrate successes.

Teaching Style:

My teaching style is hands-on and student-centered. I believe in fostering a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable sharing ideas and trying new things. I encourage creativity and collaboration, and I’m always available to provide guidance, answer questions, or help solve problems.

Interaction with Learners:

Interaction is a key part of this class. Students will engage with me and their peers through:

Real-Time Gameplay: I’ll be in the game with the students, offering tips, guidance, and support as they navigate challenges.
Group Discussions: We’ll regularly pause to discuss strategies, reflect on what we’ve learned, and share insights.
Direct Communication: Students can ask questions and seek help at any time during the class, whether through in-game chat or over Zoom.
Team Collaboration: Students will work together on group projects, fostering a sense of community and shared achievement.

Additional Information:

Technology Requirements: Students will need Minecraft Bedrock Edition and a Microsoft or Xbox Live account. They should ensure that their accounts are set up for online play before class starts. They’ll also need a way to play Minecraft and use Zoom simultaneously (Bedrock Edition only; not compatible with Java Edition).

Respectful Play: We emphasize positive interaction, so students are encouraged to respect others’ creations and maintain a supportive attitude, even when challenges arise.

This class is an excellent opportunity for Minecraft enthusiasts to enhance their gaming skills while developing important life skills in a fun and engaging way!

Learning Goals

Students will master survival skills, enhance teamwork and communication, and develop problem-solving and creative building abilities. They'll learn combat strategies, digital literacy, and self-direction while navigating engaging in-game challenges

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Lisa and I am so excited to be teaching for Outschool! As a mother to 5 children, ages 11 to 23,  have modeled and taught life skills such as sewing, cooking, arts/ crafts, animal husbandry, and balancing a budget to name a few. For the past 10 years, I have taught in my local homeschooling co-ops, Sunday school classes, and various other community activities. I believe when you actively engage children through hands-on learning, learning becomes effortless!

I am also a homeschooling mom.  I have educated my children from kindergarten up to grade 8. I have taught kindergarten which I have specialized in teaching phonics and letter recognition. As well as, science, word building, social studies, bible, and English literature.

Currently, I have been teaching ESL online for the last 3 years, to children in China ages 4 to 13 years.  This experience has really helped me to be a more precise teacher.  It is a great joy to see smiling faces as they learn and discover.
