Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Intermediate - Advanced Level
This is a read-aloud book club for girls ages 8-10. If you feel your learner would fit well but does not fall exactly into that range, message me and we'll discuss it.

We will be reading aloud, so girls enrolling in this book club should be at or above a typical third-grade reading level. However, I will help students with unfamiliar words, and we will also work on those words together!! We will use some of the larger words we come across to hone our decoding skills and learn new vocabulary.

We will be reading books aloud together during class. After-class assignments will consist of a few thought-provoking questions about the story. Students may also be asked to pose their own questions for others to answer at times. Written work will be brought back to class the following week.

Each student must have her own copy of each book. Every book title to be used will be posted several weeks in advance to allow plenty of time to obtain the book either by borrowing it from your local library or by purchasing it. (I have found that used books on Amazon are usually very inexpensive if you prefer to own the book.)

This class will function as on on-going club, so that you may feel free to jump in at ANY TIME. You are more than welcome to join in the middle of a book by simply following these guidelines:
  1. Message me to find out exactly where we are in a particular book.
  2. Obtain the book.
  3. Have your learner read (or you read aloud to catch your child up quickly) the chapters
      that we've already read.
  4. Hop into class and join right in!!! (We'll be excited to meet you!!)

Teacher expertise and credentials
My name is Cherie Steele. I am a mother of five fabulous kids, all of whom I’ve completely homeschooled. I have twenty years of experience as a curriculum author, private tutor, online teacher, a private co-op teacher, and a homeschool teacher.

I am a graduate of Penn State University and trained in the teaching of Intensive Phonics. I hold TESOL and TEFL certifications as well. In addition, I have a strong background in music, having completed 3 years of study in music and vocal performance at JDF Records in Nashville, TN. Locally, I have taught private piano and voice.

For the past twenty years, one of my great loves has been teaching language arts. Reading, writing, grammar, literature, and poetry are my passions. From ensuring that young students have a firm foundation in phonics to training older students to become great writers, it is my goal to establish a love of language arts in children.

I have logged thousands of online classes worldwide with students ranging in age from three to eighteen. I currently teach children in ten countries weekly, with classes ranging from reading and phonics for the "littles," to grammar and creative writing for the older children. I love the smiles and energy of the "littles" and the inquisitiveness and knowledge base of the older students.

Your student will feel right at home in my classroom. I am a patient teacher, and I love to bring smiles and a feeling of accomplishment. My goal is simple...lay solid foundations and build upon them with quality material.

I am excited to meet your student.

See you in class! :)
