We will focus on developing empathy and exercising good listening and conversational skills.
I am an experienced public school teacher. I have taught reading and writing at all levels from pre-kindergarten through college. I am a reading specialist, and I have extensive experience working with struggling learners. I am well trained in working with learners to identify and overcome their individual challenges in reading and writing. I also studied African America Studies, Women's Studies, and the Pedagogy of the Oppressed during my undergraduate and graduate studies. I have had training and counseling in mediation and conflict resolution in classroom and small-group settings, and I am trained and licensed in Right Response Principle-Based De-Escalation.
No homework will be assigned. Members will be encouraged to keep a journal or some type of record of topics that they would like to bring to the group for discussion.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
There are no materials required for this course, but group members might enjoy journaling or keeping list of topics to discuss, so a nice journal or designated notebook might be a benefit.
