Class Experience

COUPON: ADAMSCLASS5 for $5 off first class for new students!

In this classroom, social butterflies gather to play, converse, and socialize with peers. We play awesome team games, dress up, bring our pets and favorite toys to class, and show & share fun projects we've all been working on, and share exciting news (i.e. "I lost a tooth!"). Girls will spend one-on-one time in Breakout Rooms with a friend during every class too! They bring Barbies, My Little Ponies, put on make-up together, read books to each other, tell jokes, practice typing and reading in the chat together, take food orders and make dough food creations, and play musical instruments and sing to one another. When we have young writers in class, sometimes they'll read the stories they're working on in their Breakout Room. The spotlight is on socialization and conversation, and all social butterflies are welcome! Grab your wings, tiara, cape, or gown, and a few of your favorite things to talk about!

Butterflies, it's up to you what you'd like to play & discuss during breakout rooms, so feel free to bring whatever it is you enjoy for that time!

Class Structure:
🦋 3 minutes: Welcome! Our Social Butterflies will gather together at the start of class for hello, microphone check, and attendance before splitting into breakout rooms for 1:1 supervised small group chat time with friend(s).
🦋 32 minutes: Breakout Rooms
🦋 Dismissal from Breakout Rooms directly to allow maximum time with friends.

Classroom Rules & Expectations:
⛔ No video games during class
⛔ No screen-sharing will be permitted during Breakout Rooms to play video games, search the Internet, or watch YouTube.
✔️ Screen-sharing to use the whiteboard will be allowed during Breakout Rooms so that students who wish to draw together or play games (tic-tac-toe, etc) may do so.
✔️Video cameras are expected to be turned on for the duration of the entire class because this class promotes active socialization and participation.
✔️Students are expected to raise their hands in the big classroom and wait to be called on, and muting/unmuting is used to help keep classroom noise to a minimum. Once students have moved to Breakout Rooms, they are expected to stay unmuted for open conversation and play.

This class does utilize Breakout Rooms in ZOOM to provide a safe space for students to play and converse directly with peers in a small group setting. Breakout Rooms are monitored by this teacher at all times. In the event that an odd number of students are in class on any given day, students may be paired in a group of three for Breakout Rooms as opposed to one-on-one. Students are paired with friends based on age and interest, and groups are chosen carefully by the teacher.

Bachelor's Degree in English from University of Massachusetts at Lowell
"Education is not the filling of a pot but the lighting of a fire." –W.B. Yeats

Welcome! I'm Rachel Adams, and I am so glad that you've found me on Outschool!

I have spent 7 years in STEM+M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, + Medicine) and 2 years in SpEd (special education) support. I am beginning my 4th year already as an Outschool educator.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell with my Bachelor's in English. I also hold dual Associate degrees from Stark State College in both Arts & Science. I have classroom experience with K-12 students, and I have worked as a college writing tutor for the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. I have been a business owner/entrepreneur for over 20 years, and I am also a published author and children's book illustrator. I live in the Northeast Ohio snow belt with my family. (United States).

I have a deep connection to the medical field that has spanned over 24 years--medical language is my specialty! As a medical language specialist, I am fluent in medical terminology and have certifications in all clinical specialties as a CHDS-R and CMT-R, and in Ophthalmology as a COA-R. I am an expert in health information integrity. Additionally, I am currently back in school as a grad student, working full-time on my 4th college degree and obtaining my Master's in Nursing (MSN) at Herzing University.

I enjoy guiding adolescents and helping little learners discover what they are passionate about, and also... sometimes even more importantly... what they are not passionate about. As an educator and college & career coach, I recognize the extreme value in figuring out what it is you do NOT want to do for a career, especially when families consider the hefty financial commitments of college. I love nurturing and gently guiding learners through this important process so that they can make good choices, informed decisions, and confidently head in the direction of their dreams.

I encourage a growth mindset in all of my students, and collaboration & project-based learning have a place in all of my classes. I look forward to teaching literature & writing classes, college & career readiness, as well as classes that focus on debate skills and medical terminology by specialty. Social clubs have become my niche here on Outschool. I love working with the little munchkins--all the way down to age 5--as well as with young men & women who are close to turning their tassels and heading off to college soon!

Creating high-quality, visually appealing content is extremely important to me as your instructor.

Thank you for taking the time to read my teacher profile. If you have any questions, I welcome you to reach out to me.

Outschool is an amazing community of learners. I am incredibly happy to be teaching here, and I'm so glad that you've joined me!

I hope to see you in class soon.

Mrs. Adams
