Class Experience

This class will be an opportunity for girls to chat and socialize with one another. We will meet each week and talk about anything from what happened in our lives last week to what we want to be when we grow up. Each week I will have some fun questions and games for us to play, but the goal is for the students to organically direct the conversation and freely talk.

This is a student led class. I will facilitate the class by monitoring the conversation and providing them with discussion topics if needed. The goal of this class is to allow the girls to engage in respectful, free conversation in which they can have fun and an outlet to connect with their peers. This class does not have a set schedule of games, topics, or activities. I want the girls to influence those things.

This will be a safe place where students will feel comfortable to share their thoughts, ideas, and feelings. To ensure this, my main role will be to include all group members and allow equal opportunities for them all to talk and ask questions. As the group facilitator, I will also try to gently encourage group members to share and support them if they feel nervous to do so.

I can't wait to chat!

Parental Guidance
Because this will be a student led, discussion based class, students may bring up content related to cultural or social matters parents may be sensitive to. I will always guide the conversation to maintain appropriateness and intervene if I feel a student talks about something that is inappropriate. The main purpose of this course is to provide students with a safe environment in which every participant feels comfortable.
Supply List
Paper and something to write with would be helpful. Students may be asked to write in some classes.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello!

My name is Morgan Hernandez and I am an online ESL teacher, mom to a spirited 2 year old, and a former barber. I have been teaching online for the past 3 years and love that this unique classroom setting allows me to meet student from all parts of the world. I hold a B.A. degree in Human Development with a focus in Early Childhood Education from California State University Long Beach. I have always loved working with students and have worked in both the classroom and after school settings. I currently live in Florida with my family, which includes a dog(Axel) and cat(Arthur). I have a passion for animals and would have a zoo if my husband allowed it!

All of the classes I will teach will come from my passions for animals, reading, writing, American governments, sewing, hair grooming and having fun. One of the most important lessons I learned from working as a barber was to truly listen to people and appreciate each individual’s unique qualities. When working with students, one of my main goals is to help them feel confident and proud of the traits that make them who they are.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little bit about me and I hope to see you in class soon!
