Girl Chat will focus on enabling girls to build their confidence through both discussion as well as a related activities and games! This class will largely focus will developing self-confidence in a safe space where girls can learn and have fun! Students will be encouraged to participate as they feel comfortable in discussion, thought provoking questions and activities (both group and individual). Weekly Activity Schedule (Note that each week will also include games to help build self-confidence) Jan 1st - Self Esteem Bucket Jan 8th - Self Confidence Collage Jan 15th - Three Compliments Journal Jan 22nd - Types of Beauty Worksheet Jan 29th - Obstacles and Strategies Feb 6th - Focus on the Positive Feb 15th - Self Esteem Calendar Feb 22nd - About Me: Sentence Completion (Confidence in Skills vs. Attributes) This class will be in structured in way where discussion is facilitated by the teacher in a safe way. Allowing for all participants to contribute as they are comfortable. Additionally, we will complete an activity related to the topic in order to make the class more engaging and to bring further clarity and fun to our discussions. During the last 5-10 minutes of our class, I will encourage all students to share their "highs and lows" of the week, along with any questions surrounding our discussion. If a student is not comfortable sharing they will be encouraged to share through other means (ex. through drawing a picture to express how they feel or type in the chat for me to read to the class). Parents please note, this class requires a minimum of 3 participants to run in order to enable the girls to have peers to engage with in our discussions.
Learning Goals
Students will work towards improving their self-confidence, self-esteem and self-advocacy. Additionally, students will work on positively speaking about themselves and others and in turn learn to build positive friendships and connections.

Supply List
For each week participants will require paper (can be lined, construction, etc) as well as something to write with it will work best if the girls have multiple colours of crayons, pencil crayons or markers!

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hi! My name is Heather! I have been both enjoying and working as a non-traditional educator for nearly 10 years. I strongly believe in the value of learning in non-traditional settings and am always looking for ways to improve myself as both a student and educator.
Over the years, I have earned certifications as a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, Swim Instructor, First Aid Instructor and many more!
I teach everything health and wellness as elementary education skills including; basic swim skills, first aid, instructor and mentor new aquatics instructors as well as nutrition, movement skills, fitness, math, science and more! I am very passionate that everyone is capable of achieving their goals, however, the process we take to get there is what makes our journeys unique.
Outside of work, I am at my happiest when surrounding by water. I enjoy swimming, boating and anything outdoor adventure around water.
I alter my teaching style to meet the needs of the student(s). I strive to engage children through games and interactive activities but have created a flexible curriculum that can be altered at any time to better suit my students.
