On the first day of this multi-day class students will dive into two magical wintery tales by readingThe Gingerbread Baby and Gingerbread Friends by Jan Brett. After reading the books we will compare/contrast the two sweet tales and look at the setting of each book to see if we can come up with some gingerbread house design ideas! After our books we will begin making house plans for our own gingerbread creations! Students will enjoy drawing out what their house will look like, what candies they want to use, and ideas for creating their ultimate gingerbread homestead! On the second day of this charming class students will share their house plans with each other and we will begin gingerbread construction! This class will be a less formal class having a "winter class party" feel. The students will get to talk together to come up with neat ideas for their gingerbread houses, sing songs, enjoy the merriment of the season, AND EAT SWEETS!!!!!
Learning Goals
Students will compare and contrast books, talk about setting, use imagination to design a gingerbread house, socialize with peers, and enjoy the merriment of the winter season.
