US Grade 2 - 5
Students will apply hands on engineering and Earth science simulation experiments. Each week students will learn about a different natural disaster that happens on earth. Then students will create and perform an experiment to simulate that week's natural disaster. For each experiment, students will use their brainstorming and problem solving skills to engineer the strongest house to survive the natural disaster experiment. Week 1: Earthquake Shaking Engineering Experiment Week 2: Volcano Experiment Week 3: Tsunami Engineering Experiment

All activities in Ms. Sarah’s classes are to be done under the supervision of an adult, who is responsible for the safety of the student. Ms. Sarah is not responsible for any injuries or accidents resulted in class or after class.

Every Class: (To make a foldable diagram for learning each week) Blank paper Writing utensil Colorful writing utensils (Crayons, Markers, Colored pencils, etc.) Ruler Tape Scissors Every Class:House Materials Cardboard Plastic Foil Paper, Card-stock, Construction Paper *Or materials of your choice Earthquake Materials Pan or Tray with sides/edges Small Rocks Sand Dirt Sticks Grass Volcano Experiment Baking Soda Dish Soap Vinegar Pop Bottle or Jar (Small Size) Play Dough or Paper or Foil (Optional to decorate your volcano) Food Coloring (Optional) Container, Tin, Tray, etc (To put your volcano in for the experiment when it explodes) Blank Paper Colorful writing and drawing utensils (To create volcano diagram) Tsunami Experiment Large container (To make waves & semi-deep *waves may spill over) at least 9 x 13 or bigger container or rubbermaid Newspaper Cardboard: Parts of a Box and or Cereal Box, etc (To make houses & waves) Tape Scissors Water Small Rocks Sand Dirt Sticks Grass Plastic plate or lid
