Does your gifted child struggle with perfectionism? Do they tend to stress out over failures? Do they struggle to work through challenges? Do they have a hard time making friends or constantly seem to act without thinking, even though they are brilliant? Do you worry about gifted kid burnout? If so, join us for this one-week survival-themed course to learn skills to overcome all of these obstacles! We know that gifted learners need to be challenged intellectually and academically, but often we forget about their social and emotional needs. This course is designed to address those needs through discussion and hands-on activities that will give students real-life skills to overcome any hurdles and reach their full potential. This camp will follow a survival theme, with each day focusing on a different topic and skill set. Week 1: Lace up your boots! We're persevering through perfectionism and learning from our mistakes! -Read "The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes" by Mark Pett and Gary Rubinstein -Discuss perfectionism -Discuss notable failures -Create a "first aid kit" to combat your perfectionism and persevere through failures Week 3: Did you bring any snacks? We're fueling ourselves with self-talk and self-confidence! -Read "The Most Magnificent Thing" by Ashley Spires -Discuss self-talk and self-confidence -Design a "bug-catcher" to catch negative thoughts and decide which "foods" to pack in your bag Week 4: Where are we sleeping tonight? Learning Goals
In this camp, students will realize their full potential and learn skills to achieve it. They will gain a better understanding of perfectionism and skills to turn their perfectionism into a healthy drive instead of a stressful one. Learners will understand their self-confidence better and acquire better self-talk skills. They will understand their own asynchronous development and tools they can use to cope. They will learn the importance of having a "circle" of friends and family and what they can do to make friends and be a good friend.
