Gifted learners need to be challenged, but traditional schoolwork doesn't always challenge them or fit their unique development. Gifted students have special needs as learners. Sometimes they develop specific passions that their peers don't relate to or understand. Often they find regular academic work boring, or too easy. They can be so used to academic work being “easy” that they don’t learn how to put real effort forward. This ongoing class will challenge students with fun activities like logic puzzles, team challenges, creative exercises, and critical thinking games. The ongoing format means learners can develop relationships with an intellectual peer group, through regular contact, discussion, and participation. New content every week can be tailored to returning students and their interests and abilities. Feel free to message the teacher with specific requests, interest areas or concerns. 2E students, those that are gifted AND have a learning disability, are welcome and can be accommodated. Please adhere to the age limits unless you consult with the teacher. While younger gifted students can often work above grade level in an average class, this is a class of gifted and in some cases highly gifted students. The pace, depth, and content are suited to these students, and younger children, even younger highly gifted students, may be over-challenged by any of those factors. Not sure if your child is gifted? https://mcgt.net/checklist-is-your-child-gifted Studies show that parents are accurate in correctly identifying their children as gifted, as such, gifted testing is not required to participate in class. Some of the tools we will use in this class include: -Cryptograms - Puzzles like Rebus and Masyu - Academic Themed Escape Rooms - Logic grids - Scavenger hunts - Team challenges - In-depth discussions - Student interest-driven research and projects
