Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Making art is one of the most fun ways to express yourself, but sometimes, it's tough to know where to start. Because art has so much to it, it can often be difficult to understand the art you're looking at, as well as how to make the art that you want to! Don't worry, if you've ever felt that way, you're not alone. This club is a beginner's approach to the fundamentals of art, and is designed to help learners understand making art using a simple approach.

In this class, we will cover a different skill, technique, or medium each week. Each week will be structured in the following format:

- Introducing the topic of the week
- Discussing the topic, and looking at examples of it
- Making art that uses the topic by using a prompt

This is a beginner to intermediate class, where we will be covering skills, techniques, and mediums. In class, we will reference the elements of art, as well as art skills and concepts, but it is not required that learners know these ahead of time.

This schedule is flexible, and will change based on the interests of the students in class! Learners are also encouraged to request subjects that they'd like to learn more about. If this is the case, some classes will be replaced with the requested subjects.

Learning Goals

Learners will gain a further understanding of the different elements of art, principles of design, and other art fundamentals each week, allowing them to talk about and create art in a more informed manner.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Art is a lifelong passion, and my journey with art started in middle school. I have worked in many different media, but my favorites are sketching, drawing, and photography. I’ve been keeping sketchbooks for nearly 20 years, and they’ve helped me document my journey with art, as well as important milestones in my life. I want to help learners find their artistic passion and help them do the same.
