US Grade Preschool - 1
Beginner Level
In this class, students will be taught the 26 letter sounds necessary to begin blending basic CVC words (which begins in my Level A course). In this level primer class, we will only focus on the consonant and short vowel sounds. Students will also strengthen their listening and speaking skills through phonemic awareness activities that aim to enhance their knowledge of how sounds work together. This class is for students who have not mastered the 26 basic letter sounds. If your child has already mastered their letter sounds but is not yet blending to make basic CVC words, please sign up for my Getting Ready to Read: Level A class. Each 25-minute class will include the following activities: 1. (10-12 min) Phonemic Awareness Warm-Up (segmenting or blending syllabic parts, identifying and verbalizing rhyming words, identifying initial/medial/ending sounds in words) 2. (10-12 min) Letter Sound Chant and Review Activities I guide my online lessons using digital slides, discussions, and some physical materials but will also provide parents with resource recommendations to continue the learning outside of class time. Students are encouraged to spend 10-15 minutes practicing their letter sounds with their parent(s) on the other non-class days to enhance their learning progress and retention. I am an energetic and outgoing teacher who has years of experience keeping children engaged in the online classroom. This is why I have chosen to keep the length of this class 25 minutes. Students are given ample opportunities to talk, share and present what they have learned. Once your child has mastered their letter sounds, they will be asked to move on to my Level A class where we will begin blending the sounds together to form words. Basic sight words will also be introduced in my Level A class to encourage your child to begin reading sentences.
