US Grade 3
This is a onetime class for 90 minutes that reviews 25 core subjects for 3rd grade and beyond. Students will take a journey into what they know (or do not) in Math, Reading, Writing, History, Social Studies, Science, Music, and Art. Each subject takes 10 minutes to explore the content and acknowledge subject matter using a check off list assessment. Students will be allowed to raise their hand if they know an answer to a question and give information about the topic. The goal is to see how well students know prior knowledge of academic content. In each lesson students will either write, draw, or give verbal feedback of their interpretation of the subject. This allows all students to engage in the task identifying skills to make learning fun! We will view up to two minutes of video clips during each topic as students learn by making connections to the content. In my teaching practice I use strategies such as visuals to encourage students to feel comfortable to share what they know and feel safe doing so. For nonverbal students or students with disabilities it’s important to build connections and allow them to participate in content. To address behaviors, I use positive rewards and redirections for students to focus on the presentation. Using words of encouragement to communicate; talk, raise your hand, smile, conversation starters, and wait time for a response. At the end of the class I will email a hands-on project assignment to reinforce the skills presented in the class. I am here to assist with questions and concerns and will give professional answers and suggestions only. Learning Goals
Students will learn and review core academic knowledge that helps build a strong foundation, the more a child knows the more they are able to learn! The value of a strong early childhood education helps develop a well-versed person. This class is for all learning levels including students with special needs and learning styles that need to catch up with academic content. This course looks at key concepts of what a third grader should know for reading, writing, math science, geography, history, art, and by the end of the year music. With so much information for a third grader to learn, I will explore types of sentences, mythical characters, how prefixes work, writing stories, basic research, basic maps, major rivers, Ancient Rome, a basic review of global culture (pretaining to language, dress, and practices), understanding 2-D/3-D, making change for a dollar bill, read and write up to six-digit number, understanding the different instruments families, explore the 13 colonies, classify animals, learning how sight and sound work, understnad man-made threats to the environment, reach for the stars.
