In this one-time class, students will discuss the importance of the daily use of the sketchbook for building their art skills. Creative exercises and challenges will ensure the students have fun practicing a variety of skills as an example of what kind of work can go into their sketchbooks. Students will learn why it is important to maintain daily practice in their sketchbook. They will also learn three drawing exercises to help them start drawing on days they can’t think of what to draw. Students will also start to think of the possibility of joining a Sketchbook Club with me to have a cohort of friends to support each other as they practice their work.
I am an artist but have also been a classroom teacher for 32 years, teaching all subjects through the use of art and art history. I maintain several daily sketchbooks for my own skill growth. I have taught art for many years.
Students will be given a 30 Day Sketchbook Challenge to complete on their own if they choose to. (In my Sketchbook Clubs, students are given weekly challenges.)
1 file available upon enrollmentA sketchbook of the student’s preference, drawing tools of the student’s choice (ex. pencils, charcoal, pencil crayons…)
No formal assessment is given however I will give pointers and encouragement during the class sharing sessions.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
