Class Experience

Children will have loads of fun in this exciting, interactive phonics class. We will learn to identify the sounds of the letters in words by singing songs, playing games and making simple arts and craft projects. Each class we will focus on a new letter. Classes will be comprised of games and activities using materials from home such as construction paper, glue, safety scissors, tape, paper plates, old magazines and flyers, If templates are needed they will be sent out about a week in advance. Classes are designed to teach through play and crafts to help children learn their letters and phonics in a fun way that gets them excited about learning!
Learning Goals
Students will be exposed to phonics through multi-sensory activities for learning letter sounds and hearing those sounds at the beginning, middle and end of CVC words. We will create a phonics book that students can use to review letter sounds, sing songs, and create fun and simple crafts to help reinforce the letter sounds.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have always loved working with children and developing those strong and positive relationships that make them feel secure and valuable. I especially enjoyed running a home daycare because often I was not limited to one school year to develop those relationships. I frequently kept a child from infancy to kindergarten or beyond. In addition to running a home daycare for 15 years, I have taught in public school, home schooled my own child, and teach Head Start. I have a bachelors degree in psychology. I also have also planned and run the Children's Programming at 3 different yearly Science Fiction Conventions for about 12 years. I would love to teach Phonics, Reading, Mathematics, Mad Science, and various Arts and Crafts courses. I believe children should be treated with respect and caring. They should be nurtured and encouraged. Children learn at different rates and all children are learners and it is our job as teachers to help them realize their full potential.
Some fun things about me are that I crochet, knit, and sew. I am a voracious reader and I LOVE science fiction and fantasy. I attend several Science Fictions conventions a year and am a member of two science fiction clubs and one costume guild. My favorite costume genre is Steampunk and I dress up at the conventions in a combination of homemade and bought items. Well that is me in a nutshell.
