Description
Class Experience
Students will use their own imagination to expand on adventures in the book. They will be able to draw, write about and discuss creative ideas in an interactive environment. This class will provide a springboard for writing in such a way that the reader can't wait to find out what happens next. The book, A Whole Nother Story, is perfect for reluctant readers and bookworms alike because it is full of danger, mystery and just the right amount of silliness.
I often used this book when I taught in a traditional school setting. I found even the most reluctant readers enjoyed it and couldn't wait to find out what happened next. This gave me an opportunity to show them that their ideas could be equally fun and interesting to a potential reader. Students that didn't see themselves as creative were more open to sharing their work. For my Outschool classes, I like to encourage students to interact during the lessons and I believe this class will give them a perfect non-threatening opportunity to do so. The material will give students of various academic levels the chance to work together as peers.
The learners will need a copy of the book, A Whole Nother Story, by Dr. Cuthbert Soup. Some of the book will be read together in class, but the students will be required to read a few chapters between classes. They may also finish their creative assignments after the class time ends.
